Rave: London & Paris to look forward to.
Rant: mr mc isn't doing his exercises for his hip--there is always some excuse. Even dire warnings about how long the replacement will last and mobility don't get anywhere.

MC -
Big rave today. We bought new computers last week, and yesterday the Best Buy person came to set them up for us Stephen loves his laptop and I'm having huge fun with my desktop. The monitor is huge and bright, the new Windows 7 system is easy to operate, the whole thing is really fast - it's great. Another big rave - the new probiotic I'm taking really seems to be working. I feel good, energetic - the best I've felt in months. No rants this week! Have a great weekend, everybody. |

RANT: Had some sort of weird virus this week, which left my digestive tract out of sorts and me with zero energy.
RAVE: It seems to be gone at last. RAVE/CAT UPDATE: Lulu is now off Prozac. She seems fine. She is relating to the new cats, playing and tussling with them, eating and sleeping right next to them. Cosmo even snuggles up to her sometimes and she licks his head. We think she has decided they are her kittens, even though she doesn't remember giving birth to them. If you should have a problem like this, do ask your vet about Prozac (MC, I'm thinking of you) because it was a miracle drug for getting us all through the past few weeks. |

Cheech, I'm so glad there's a happy ending to your kitty saga!
Rave: leaving for Vegas tonight. Rave: dogs are at the kennel, will soon take kids to neighbor's house. Rant: I've been fighting a sore throat for the last 24 hours or so. I'm alternating OJ, echinacea tea, and zinc tablets--NO WAY am I getting sick for this trip!!

Rave: All the good news above! Jocelyn, win a million - that'll help your feelings a whole lot, I'm sure!
Rave: Had a great time at the Peanut Festival with the GS. He ran into some friends & therefore was brave enough to get on several kiddie rides that I doubt he would have, otherwise. But, another older child showed up & one-upped him out of his prize seat with the 6yo alfa female of the group. An early life lesson. Rant: Major computer problems here. Main pc crashed. Next day, sustained a total house power failure. I think I finally got the 2 laptops working (they weren't) today. Hurray! Rave: DH is taking me out to a nice restaurant tonight. Rave: I was finally allowed to come to work this week. Census has been low- but hopefully , that won't be a trend. |

RAVE: back from a short trip to LA area to attend a recital by my favorite tenor. An internet aquaintaince & I waited for him at the stage door after the
concert so we could get his autograph. When he saw me, he asked if he's met me before?! I was really surprised - I did meet him once a year ago when I
saw him sing in London and I met him at the stage door afterward, but I didn't expect him to remember my face (I'm not that pretty
Rant: my original nonstop flight from Boston to LA was cancelled, and I was rerouted to fly via Chicago. Then the Chicago-LA flight had mechanical problems, and it was delayed for another 1.5 hours. But at least I got to LA, and I arrived a day before the concert as a "buffer". Rave: while visiting my brother in LA, he gave me his old iPod Nano because he now has a new smart phone which stores his music, so he doesn't need the ipod nano anymore. I've never had an ipod, so this has been fun and I'm downloading various podcasts. Rant: went into town for a rush ticket for today's BSO matinee concert (Beethoven symphony no. 8 &9), but all tickets were gone even though I had to stand in line for over 30 minutes. Rave: so instead of the BSO concert, I went to MFA (museum of Fine Arts) and checked out the new Secrets of Tomb 10A exhibition. I also took a docent tour on Art of Europe, and learn something new. Rave: a weekend with DH and he's not stressed out. Weather will be nice so I hope we'll head out and do something fun. We will be attending a documentary screening at the Goethe Institut, part of a celebration of the 20th anniv of fall of Berlin Wall. Rave/minor rant: Leaving for Barcelona for a week on Monday, going with sis-in-law. Too bad DH can't come so he'll be home alone. Have a good weekend everyone! |

Raves: sounds like a good week for all above. Simone, hope things work into a rave in a few days/hours/minutes...
We just went over to Saltspring (Victoria GTGers will remember Anne and Rick at Anne's Oceanfront Hideaway--google it if you've forgotten!) and had a great day with them even though it was during a very heavy rainfall. We had three dogs and all got along well... Blarney has had trouble with big dogs, but not this time, so I guess he's improving. We're gearing up for our trip to Las Vegas, and DH is researching a trip to Churchill to see the polar bears and another trip to Newfoundland. |

y2k, I was trying to get tix for that same BSO program only one of the night concerts, Thursday or Saturday. But even my inside source couldn't get me a
pair! That's highly unusual. I'm told Symphony Hall hasn't been this full in years, the Beethoven concerts have been extremely popular.
I'm looking forward to your Barcelona report...we are thinking of going next September. And GR, I want to hear about Churchill too, if you go...another palce on my list ChiChi, I'm so glad your cat news is good! And raves for all the other good news as well. Have a good weekend!! |

ChinaCat00 wrote:Beethoven certainly has his draw, even though maestro Levine is still out! I was able to get rush ticket for the Symphony No.1/2/5 concert 2 weeks ago, but obviously No.9 is even more popular. That's in stark contrast to another BSO concert I went last month - it was mostly unknown composers or unknown pieces by famous composers. The hall was less than half full. |

RANT: Still haven't been approved for my huge money saving health insurance switch. The company contacted my doctor for my records. Seems I'm dead.
Ooops. I went to the office today. For the last couple of years I've only seen my doctor when taking Lee. The doctor did the usual stuff for me, but I
never needed anything -- except my usual diabetic prescriptions which he'd issue. But he never charged me -- he just covered me on Lee's bill as if it
were one office visit for both of us. But when Lee died, apparently my records were with his and they got "filed". So the new receptionist told the
insurance company that they had no record of me. At least they didn't tell them I had died -- that might have killed the deal!
So now the records are on their way. Hopefully I will still get approved, but they seemed dismayed when I said I hadn't had a physical for two years which was a glowing one, and I've not had any treatments for anything at all since then -- nor any reason to see a doctor. Seems they would rather have an unhealthy person who has to see the doctor all the time. Go figure. RAVE: Early this summer I spent a day in Ft. Lauderdale with a friend of a friend who was buying a townhouse that was in foreclosure. He's a teacher and this was his first house and he had no money to spend. I helped him with drawing out furniture placement for the furniture he had, talking about how to do the closets. They had no shelves and I drew out some plans as he and a buddy wanted to do them themselves from Lowe's or somewhere. And I sent him paint colors for the walls that I thought would be perfect for him. He thanked me then, but I hadn't heard anything about it. Well Saturday he had a big housewarming and I went. I was shocked. He did every one of my ideas. All the colors were my selections, even the closets are exactly as I suggested. I never thought he'd really paint the kitchen bright red as I suggested (he has modern white and black furniture with just a touch of red accents) but he did, and it's fantastic. Everyone was raving about his choice of colors. I told him now that I know he used my ideas, I'll send him my bill. LOL

Yes, I've heard it's extremely difficult to get health insurance when you're deceased.

actually, I'd think it would be easier. You're not going to have any new problems. And they don't have to cover death because that's a
pre-existing condition. I'd think the insurance companies would be lining up to cover dead people!

The insurance companies are reluctant to cover deceased people because they're notoriously bad at making their payments.

No pictures of the townhouse, and it is nothing extravagant. The story is that it sold new four years ago at the height of the market for around $495,000. It
went into foreclosure and sat vacant for nearly two years. This guy bought it for -- are you ready? -- $165,000. He didn't really have to do much major
with it, had great appliances (I'd never heard of Porsche refrigerators before), granite countertops and all the rest. It was kind of odd that they had
apparently stripped the closets bare though.
Well, I called the doctor's office this morning and asked if they faxed the records. The new girl cried about how swamped she is and promised to get to it soon. I tried to be polite but informed her that losing this insurance would cost me about $7000 a year, so please not to screw it up. Rave: I finished my pesto today. (see the food and wine board if you're interested). Used up 12 cups of packed basil leaves, only about half of what I cut. Froze some, gave some to two neighbors and having a friend over tonight for scallops on pesto linguini. The big bonus? My house smells fantastic. Unfortunately my cleaners are here to day, so the great smell may be replaced by "clean smell". Frankly I like the pesto smell better. Also made guacamole with a huge avocado a friend gave me. Geez, I'm turning domestic all of a sudden. |
