I was just in Hyder and wanted to go up the mountain to see the glacier agaijn but the road collapsed into the river about 3 miles north of Fish Creek. When I left, they had no idea when or how they would reopen the road.

River banks do collapse from time to time, especially on swift-water rivers. Thanks for the good thoughts, Reta. My chances for being on it at the exact time it collapsed were pretty small but I'm very glad I hadn't gotten across the bad sections before it let go. We'd still be trying to figure out how to get my car back on the south side of the collapse and I'd still be in the Hyder area instead of Homer, where I am now.
