It started up again July 4 and the first two days were gorgeous...today's race is not as picturesque, as they area crossing the Carmargue which is very flat.

Never been to France, I don't bike, but I enjoy watching the TdF. Yesterday was pretty amazing in what happened. The peloton NEVER lets a group that includes the yellow jersey break away. Lots of riders asleep at the wheel in that one.

Since barring broken bones the Tour is decided by the mountains and the time trials, the 20-40 seconds garnered by the breakaway would be considered insignificant. More important were two considerations: The team time trials the next day required the riders to conserve energy for when it really counted: the next day. Also, since it was a sprint day, the green jersey team, not the yellow, would be making the decisions. Today, as expected, the time trial greatly spread out the GC by far more than the spread caused by yesterday's breakaway. This leaves the question, will the Tour be decided in the Pyrenees or on Mount Ventoux?

Ido know the yellow jersey wasn't in the breakaway. But, still, it is unusual for the leader's team to allow a breakaway like that. I guess they allowed it because Lance was in the group. But I still say it would be almost unheard of for the other teams to allow a breakaway that included the yellow jersey. No way they would let the leader pad hi lead.

I was hoping they'd have an opportuity to separate themselves from the yellow jersey and put it on Lance, but it didn't work that way. Cancellara stayed close to Lance most of the way. There was no way he was going to let Lance get ahead of him timewise.
