Even though it's my first trip, I'm not going to do the typical first-time routine...it's all going to be about the food. Can't wait! Rant: it's been screaming hot here this week. Rave: summer with the kids is soooo much better when there's a pool in the backyard. Rave: babies. So many friends are having babies! I'm bringing dinner to a couple of new moms next week. Rant: I promised myself I'd clean out closets and the kids' playroom this summer but it's soooo hard for me to get motivated to do it. Ick. Have a great weekend everyone!

Rant: Weather has been terrible here, just rain and rain and more rain. We probably had 2 days of sunshine in the last 2 weeks. Our potted herbs on the deck are not growing due to no sun. Rant/Rave: My brother came to visit for a few days. But he got sick the first day so we didn't do anything. He did get better afterwards so we were able to visit the Lowell National Historical Park; and had a great dim sum lunch in Chinatown. Rave: On a rare sunny afternoon, I visited Stonehurst mansion - it's a house built by HH Richardson and landscape by Olmstead, for the wealthy Robert Treat Paine and his family. There were only 3 visitors and we had a tour of the place for 2 hours! Found out that there is plenty of hiking trails behind the estate, so we will go there later in the summer. Rave: Went canoeing on the Charles River last week, and I didn't flip our boat over!

Its on my list of places I'd like to go explore and take photos. Unfortunately it's supposed to rain more this weekend (yes, that's a rant!). Rave: MrC comes home from a business trip tonight. I've missed him this week.

Posts: 2763 (06/19/09 10:03:41) Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Rant: June, previously one of my favorite months of the year, is quickly going the way of July & August, the worst (hottest & most humid). It's been 100-101 all week & today & tomorrow are suppose to reach 102 & 104!!! Rant: Still haven't gotten my Victoria pictures posted. I AM working on it, but things keep happening to delay me. Rant: A close relative is having a problem & asking for my help ( not my spouse ). That's really all I can say but it's major & we both could use some prayers if you are so inclined. Rant: Receiving more pressure from work to put in more hours. Rave: My potted veggies are coming along nicely. Both winter & summer squash, tomato, & some herbs. There is a volunteer melon growing in my front flower bed. I have no idea how it got there, but will see if it produces. Rave: We're healthy & have plenty to eat - along with functioning A/C! However, it willl be open on July 26 (Sunday). Per the guide, they try to open one Sunday each month, but it's not a set Sunday. On July 26, there will be a free guided walk in the trails and quick visit of Lyman Estate Gardens. Here is a map of the trails. If you're interested in the July 26 walk, let me know. I already told my husband that we're going - unless it's pouring rain.

They have a very busy summer planned and have to be back at work in Bangkok in early August, so they're doing a whirlwind visit to the whole family. They left for New York on Tuesday morning and will go from there to Toronto. After that, they're doing a trip to Africa. I can't believe their stamina and sense of adventure. They enjoy everything they do and it's just lovely to be around all that positive energy, and of course being with my daughter is beyond lovely. Rant: They've left! Rave: Daughter #2 is coming with her family in August. Rave: annual shopping orgy this week, with two friends, at the Supermall in Auburn, WA. My diverticulitis-inspired weight loss means that I need to buy new underwear, because my pants keep falling down. And because we all have such a sophisticated sense of humour, one friend and I got a remote-controlled device that makes a loud fart noise, which we intend to use to play tricks on the other friend (who doesn't know about it yet) and assorted passing strangers. Do you think it would be amusing to trigger it as we're talking with the border guards when we cross into Washington?

So much for that. Another time! Rave: OSB's photos are posted and if you couldn't come, have a look and feel as if you were here! Rant: weather seems to have turned again. We've had some rain which has sorted out the allergens in the air--a good thing. However, we were getting used to that great weather, and would welcome it back!

We had a lot of fun. Truly enjoyed hearing about the Victoria GTF and I was happy to have looked over Mike's pictures earlier in the day. Nothing else...no particularly big news to share, and fortunately no worries to report.

How can the children in the house behind me play non-stop basketball even in the rain? Rave: Have been reading Ring of Seasons by Terry Lacy in preparation for my upcoming trip to Iceland. Very interesting history and culture of that country.
