I had a dream last night that I was babysitting a baby giraffe. He was as cute as could be, but he kept running out into the road and I was afraid he'd get hurt. Have you ever tried babysitting a baby giraffe? It's not easy. Rave/rant: My kids are finally getting their birthday party, two months late. It's a pool party at our house. 17 kids. Yeah, I know. I've hired a lifeguard, though, and will have plenty of beer and wine on hand for the parents. Rave: I'm getting really excited about my girls' trip to NYC--I leave two weeks from today! Rave: big changes and big leaps of faith going on around here...all for the good. Happy weekend!

I can't even start to think what it'll be like! Yikes! Rant: We've had crappy weather here for the entire week. Cool, grey, damp for 5 days now. Our town is hosting the first annual Riverfest this weekend (Fri eve/Sat day) and our plan is to go rent a canoe this evening. May not be able to do that since thunderstorms are predicted for today and tomorrow. Mild Rant: Last weekend outings were a bit of an anti-climax. Both those are all free entertainment, so I can't complain. Rave: My brother is coming to visit for a few days, arriving tomorrow. We'll do some sightseeing with him (again, fingers crossed for decent weather the next few days). Rave: Made Banana Nut Bread for the very first time in my life! And it came out okay and is edible (and no one has gotten sick yet)! Rave: First 2009 sighting of our neighbor's woodchuck. (It lives under the shed in our neighbor's backyard. We saw it last year but haven't seen it in 2009 until yesterday. We don't think our neighbor knows of their "tenant".) Last Edited By: y2000k 06/12/09 09:46:22. Edited 1 times.

I went to the Yankees-Red Sox game on Wednesday, which was the only game that didn't actually get rained on. It was great. The Sox won a tight one, 6-5, and have now swept the Yankees for the 3rd time this season. Woo-hoo! Rave: it's the weekend. I need a weekend... Rant/Rave -- just realized my payment is due on the beach house rental in Kauai. The rant is because I have to write the check. The rave is that means 90 days till Kauai! Rant -- MrCat threw out his back. He's been very unhappy this week, and that makes for an unhappy household. Even the cats seem to feel his pain (or perhaps they are just complaining because he won't bend over to pet them).

Here it is, almost mid-June and our temps are hovering in the low-to-mid 90's with about 5% humidity. Rave; Getting ready for our next trip -- NC to visit my parents, also a very short GTG near RDU (so far, only ncgrrl can make it). Then to Vermont for the annual family reunion and finally, to RI to visit a friend. Rant: Getting ready for our next trip when I haven't even posted pics from the Victoria GTG. Rave/Rant: Got a new smoker and am anxious to fire it up to try it out. But I won't have any time to do it before we get back from our trip. All weekend is already booked with dinners with friends. Have a great weekend, everyone. ETA: Sunday dinner with friends has been canceled. So I am going to try out my new smoker doing a pork loin. Last Edited By: MikePinTucson 06/12/09 14:14:05. I haven't seen my child in 2 years - even longer since I've seen my son-in-law - and I can't stop looking at her! They're only here for a few days but it's just wonderful having them here, and they're currently looking at places to live either here or across the Strait in Vancouver. Either one would be somewhat closer than Thailand, so I'm delighted. No rants. How could there be? Have a great weekend, everybody.

May need two or three life guards! You got my attention with the big changes & leaps of faith - can't wait 'til you can share more about them. Y2: Cute woodchuck! Rave: Still on a high from the Victoria trip! GR is the greatest hostess & tour guide ever! Not slighting Meetshare, as she & Stephen were wonderful too! GR just took the bull by the horns & ran with it so to speak. I'm working on getting the pics on line & a TR, but it's slow go. After getting about a third of the pics edited on DH's laptop, we got our puter back up & running. So I started over again, as I wanted them on the main computer (I realize there was probably an easier way). Rant/Rave: BamaJam entertainment was great - all except Kid Rock who finished it off late Sat. night. The language that came out of that filthy mouth! People started streaming out & we followed. He tried to convince us he was a 'country boy' - a badge of honor at this festival. "You know how I spent my day? I went fish'in - caught me a bream & fried it up.....took my 30-30 & shot me an Alabama Hog!" On the way out, DH says to me " That guy is NO country boy - he's fooling people." Oh yeah? Why do you say that? "Nobody uses a 30-30 anymore!" Ha! Only a true country boy would know that! So, I got my picture made with a true country boy that can survive - JT from the Survivor show. The RV was way too much work for us - probably won't do that again. Will either get a local room or drive each night. (Am I repeating myself?). Rave: My little GS who told me on the phone when I called from Victoria : "Hi G! I miss you G! Come home to Paw-paw's house!" Then repeated, it again. That just blessed my heart! ( By the way, he usually refers to it as 'G's house' ).

Even though I've seen him since I'm back this will be the first to have him alone.... Rant: The weather here in NJ is what I expected in Victoria...cold and rainy.. Rave: Weather is saving me money on electricity and water. No need for AC or Sprinklers. Rave: The trip I am signed up for to Iceland in August will be going ahead even though they have a low number of participants. Rant: Suggestions for Iceland trip are a pair of waterproof outerpants.....and waterproof hiking shoes.....Just how wet is it going to be? Am I crazy?

Hire a lifeguard and get plenty of booze for the parents. I could borrow a couple kids and come to THAT party. OSB, a few years ago, Lee and I traveled just two days with his brother and his wife in their wonderful big RV from Ashland to their home at Tahoe. I agree. Too much work. While helping to hook up the sewer pipe which erupted all over, and doing all the miscellaneous work, I kept asking myself --- this is more fun than staying at a Marriott?? RAVE: I mentioned to a friend at home by email that it seems I've been so "tired" on this trip. I've fallen asleep taking naps (missing two planned dinners in Tofino), which I've never done, sleep peacefully through the entire night, and generally seem at ease. He replied with "I know you won't understand this, because it's never happened to you before, but what your experiencing is called "RELAXING". You know, I think he's right. The other night I said to a bartender as I was eating dinner at the bar, "if I were any more relaxed, I'd be unconscious." RAVE: Made a slight change to my Pacific Northwest itinerary. I saw while in Seattle a couple weeks ago that Judd Hirsch is doing Below the Belt for ACT Theatre here. I suddenly realized there was really no reason for me to go to Port Townsend and do more boat trips and another San Juan Island, but I could just go spend two nights in Seattle instead. I'm there now and glad I did that. Great dinner at Etta's tonight -- the same memorable one Lee and I had four summers ago here! RAVE: Looking forward to seeing my 7 plays in 4 days next week in Ashland. RAVE: Being back in the US and having a working cell phone again! Rants: Huh? What are those?

Just miss one IF I need it. Like trying to call the apartment owner in Vancouver to say "I'm here". I went to Budget today to check if all my paperwork is in order for the crumpled car I need to return next Sunday. I didn't want any delays when I'm catching a flight. But they insist I bring in it this afternoon and get a new car for the next week. I was a little hesitant considering my track record with "new" rental cars.

There was plenty of food and no one even touched the booze (!?!?). We had 14 kids show up and everyone seemed to have a great time!

We've had some extra special teachers in our kids' lives and I am so very grateful. I'm reminded of what a tough job you all have whenever I volunteer in the classroom.
