Oh, that OSB is always complaining about not being fed properly. She did the same thing at my house. Don't worry about it.

Hey, GR, did you realize that's "my house" in your Wiffen Spit pic -- the white dot at the far end? Although I'm still thinking since it
would take so much work -- putting in big sliders where the two small windows are and building that deck, I'm just going to have to look for something
better.
Got to Tofino without incident. Nary a school bus in sight! And fortunately I saw the deer grazing right behind my car at Meesthare's this morning before I backed up. But I'm really tired. Walked all over this "bustling city" on arrival. But I think my salmon burger lunch from "Goats on the Roof" didn't agree with me. (Don't ask, non GTGers.) I'm passing on meeting Mike, Irma, and Mary for dinner this evening. Maybe I'll break into my cheese ------ that I almost forgot and left in Joan's trunk (fortunately we met up again on the ferry) and then this morning left Cindy and Stephen's, and had to turn around to retrieve the cheese again as I almost left it. Great pics, Gardenridge. And despite how it looks, no I was NOT always eating! What fun we had. And what great hosts Meesthare and Stephen were! |

Could be another reason you're really tired, Patrick. I think it all caught up with me last night because I slept like a post. Hope you are well this
morning. ENJOY Tofino!
Goats: see http://www.livevideo.com/...-the-roof-coombs-bc.aspx Here's a recap of what happened at the Victoria GTG: Tuesday, OSB and friend Marion arrived in VIctoria. I picked them up and took them immediately to the beach to prove we were on an island, (or at least there was water nearby) It was the beginning of many critter encounters: deer, rabbits and birds. We had a quick afternoon tea of chowder and biscuits, Nanaimo bars and butter tarts (Canadian desserts) and then went touring the long way back to their hotel. I tried to give them a sense of their neighbourhood and managed to get lost. It was the beginning of many times! I have a rep now for directions. Wednesday: Some went whale watching, but only saw seals, sea lions and various birds. Mike and Irma arrived for dinner. More talking! More fabulous weather (we broke records this week--hottest it has ever been in Victoria ever on those dates. Still breezes made it very nice, and Patrick kept saying all week that we didn't know HOT. Thursday: Gone from my mind... I think they all went touring, until dinner at the Bard and Banker where we met and discussed the finer points of "all you all" and other mysteries of the universe. Walking tour afterwards to see the bookstore with the tapestries and the fine old cigar shop down from it. Friday: Castle tour, then Fishermen's Wharf for a lunch at Barb's (famous!) and a seal check before a later dinner at Pescatore's, which was well done for the most part considering the size of our group. Saturday: Butchart Gardens, crabbing on the wharf with my DD and DH before the party at the house, garden tour and all. Sunday: watched the harbour ferry ballet, then raced out to Point No Point for lunch and views, Whiffen Spit, and to the Blue Raven Gallery to see Newman's art and jewellery, the outside First Nations style gazebo, ocean views, then to Meesthare's for dinner before the long drive back to town full and happy. Monday: Saltspring Island! The ferry was late due to construction at Fulford Harbour, but we still had time to see the David Woods cheese factory and to taste cheese and olives before a few purchases and on to Ganges for lunch and tour, then to Anne's Oceanfront Hideaway for the hummingbirds and to relax on the deck while nibbling Anne's treats in her dining room. We also did a quick tour of the B&B. I love her kitchen! Tuesday: goodbyes to OSB and Marion at the airport. Most of the others are in Tofino on the Wild Wet Coast, except the exceptional weather continues. Mike and Irma will be back on Thursday for our pig roast a la Mike. Got some barbecue tips, and Dave and I are practising what we've learned. Had some great ribs last night. I'm suffering withdrawal. It's been fun having people around!

Wow, that was a wonderful gtg! Thanks for giving us the rundown GR. I think the group was lucky to have such great hostesses.
I hope everyone gets home safely, no car problems or airline delays. Time for GR, Meesthare and their families to put the feet up and rest. Well done, thanks!

discussed the finer points of "all you all" All y'all? It's a good southern term. With 'you' being both singular and plural, y'all ('you all' for the non-southerners) helps distinguish between singular and plural. So if you want to know if the whole group (that is ALL of the group) is participating, "all y'all" becomes the choice phrase. Sounds like a great trip, sorry I couldn't make it this time. |

No one here has given one thought of my absence. For all you know, I could have been GR's BBQ on Thursday! ...Axe murderer and all that, you know!
My plane got in about 10 PM last night & I spent all day today cleaning our loaned RV for our BamaJam stay tomorrow through Sunday morning. Still not through stocking it up. So, I'll be late posting a trip report & pics, of which I took way too many! Filled one 2 gig card & partially another. Forgot my camera one whole day ( the day after Joan's party, as I left it at her house), or it would have been even more! Marion has a huge zoom lens, so expecting great pics from her as well! I just had to log on to see what you all were saying & I see I'm a complainer about the food ...that's news to me - thought I had raved aplenty! I don't think I had a bad meal there even once! GR's spread was huge & I did take pics. Then she kept bringing even MORE things out to eat - plus a wonderful BD cake for Endo. The lemondrops were taking affect & I don't think I captured the later appearances of delicous dishes. I have actually requested recipes - but you don't have toTOO quickly as I can't access my Masterchef program. My puter is still out & am still on Dh's laptop. Meetshare's dinner was a more reasonable size, but not lacking in the flavor department one whiffen spit! Delish is the word of the day. Esp. the blackberry ice cream & lemon cake with berries on the side! Yum! I may need to know not only the recipe, Meetshare, but also the type of machine. All we have is the traditional ice cream maker. For sure, GR kept us busy but it was 'just perfect!' as they say. I loved every minute! I think the biggest 'surprise' was the Fanny Bay Oysters size. Patrick & Marion had both ordered oysters on the half shell at Bard & Banker that were very tiny in size - less than our standard couple to three inch ones here in the south. I'd read that the FB ones were only available on Vancouver Island & wanted to try them. The order of 4 for $12.95 seemed a bit steep - esp. if they turned out to be the tiny ones the others had had the night before. Then I saw Barb's also offered an order of ONE for $1.95. So, I placed an order for Fish & chips & one FB oyster. I have to tell you that that ONE Fanny Bay oyster was the biggest oyster ( and the most flavorful) I've ever had in my life! An order of four would have been too many for me - one or maybe two would have been gracious plenty! At first glance, I supposed it was a croquet , but no, it was a whole oyster. I believe it was about 5-6 inches by 3 1/2 or so. I have to quibble with Mike a bit too. I have evidence of myself pulling in a basket or two of crabs & holding the big grand-dad of them all! I also purchased a yellow purse in Sidney while shopping with Irma & Marion. It's the first time ever for me to be shopping & crabbing in the same day - much less, the same outfit! But, you'll have to wait for it, as I'm exhausted & going to bed now. Many thanks, to both of you Gardenridge & Meetshare! You guys are the hostesses of the year! I don't think you can be out done. |

I sized you up and you'd never be good on the barbecue, OSB! I love hearing your voice now when I read your posts. I see the smile, too!
I hope the two axe murderers in the photos show up soon. That should be a wild photo. Guess we have to wait till you've recovered from Bama Jam. Mike and Irma should be back here tomorrow night. ncgrrl, your name came up, and we hope you'll come another time. We have to go caching together, though I know I would slow you down. |

Weather has been absolutely unbelievable here ever since the get together began. (I am about 20-30 miles east of where y'all partied, across the water)
Here it is 10:30 p.m. on a night in early June, and I not only do not have the furnace on, I have ALL of the windows open, AND fans on. It got up to as high
as 85 in some places here today. That is extremely weird, considering it only ever usually gets to about 79 degrees for a high around here, and that is in
late August. It is pretty much unheard of in June when we are usually praying for a dry day above 50.
I do know hot, having lived in Florida for twelve years and the even hotter Houston for 8 years. We do not have air conditioning up here, as we generally don't need it. I am very happy all of y'all (which, having lived in both Florida and Texas, I can aver is plural) had a wonderful time at the get together. |

In response to requests, I'm going to post the recipes for Santa Fe pasta and blackberry ice cream (as served at the GTG) on the Food and Wine board. As
for the ice cream maker, OSB, it's a Cuisinart, and we love it - the only thing is that you have to remember to freeze the container for quite a few hours
before you make the ice cream. I just keep it in the freezer all the time, as per the manufacturer's suggestion, so it's always ready.

ncgrrl, . . . . We have to go caching together, though I know I would slow you down. Deal. You won't slow me down, I'll be taking in all the scenery. I hope the caches are in scenic places and not every lamppost in every shopping center of the area. |

Well, our last morning here. We got back from 2 nights in gorgeous Tofino (then again, EVERY place we have gone has been gorgeous). GR had applied the rub to
the pork the day before, then GR's husband did the BBQing. It turned out great. Now all of their friends will be calling it "Famous Dave's pulled
pork".
We have had SUCH a good time. GR and Meesthare are, indeed, perfect hostesses. We go to Seattle today for an overnight before flying back on Saturday. So pictures will have to wait a bit. |

Thanks, Mike. Hope you have a safe trip home. Let me know when you're home safely.
ncgrrl, I'll drive, you sightsee. There's one above the winery that would be especially fun to take you to. 360 views of the sea. If Dave is well, and up for it, he could take you into the hills for even more spectacular views. Yes, we have those lampost ones here, too. What is it that geocache setters don't get about INTERESTING spots? |

We are finally back home. Everything went like clockwork................until we picked up our car in Phoenix. Trying to get on one of the freeways, they had
entrance ramps closed and we had to make a several mile detour along the surface streets. Then, about 1/3 of the way to Tucson there was an accident that had
traffic backed up, completely stopped, for 4 miles. So we ended up getting home a good hour later than expected.
But, we ARE here, and that's what matters. Just checking in for now. I am ready to rest for a while. |

It was a long, long day of traveling back home yesterday and I am really tired this morning, but just wanted to say that it was a great time! Such good food, companionship and interesting sightseeing and activities. For any of you interested I will post a trip bird list and hopefully some bald eagle photos. I can't thank our hosts enough. |
