What is your favorite British TV comedy or other kind of series? |

We watched Ballykissangel at a very stressful time of our lives and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was the perfect escapist and entertaining tv show. What are some
of your favorites? We also watched Doc Martin and now are watching Vicar of Dibley - it's an amusing parody but a little slapstick.

But the Vicar of Dibley is such gentle humour. Loved it. The other Brit series I loved was called (I think) The Three Normans...??? Or the Norman Conquest,
or some such. It was the same story told three different ways.

I didn't really watch British TV series until the last few years. DH & I enjoyed BBC's Coupling in the past. A few seasons of Inspector Lynley was
okay, but we got tired of "him" in the last season. We also liked Poirot and Miss Marple.
Right now my favorite is Inspector Lewis, which is shown in the US in the summer during PBS' Masterpiece Mystery!. This summer will be the second season of Inspector Lewis, which is all shot on location in Oxford (I missed their shooting by just one day last all when I was in Oxford.) |

We love the Vicar of Dibley but they never show very many episodes on TV. One of the PBS stations was running it but they stopped after maybe 4 or 5 - and I
know the show ran a lot longer than that.
Of course we still enjoy Keeping Up Appearances and Are You Being Served, but they're wearing a little thin after so many years. |

Thanks for your suggestions. We'll try them. Netflix is a great way to have access to almost any TV series. I think they have five or so years of the Vicar
of Dibley and all of Ballykissangel although we liked that so much that we bought it. Right now we have loaned it to a friend whose husband has been quite sick
for a long time (cancer). They love British TV so I'll pass these suggestions on to them.

We also loved Waiting for God - really funny - set in a retirement home. Revenge of the Aged!
And another series that I can't remember the name of right now- It's a very entertaining series about two women who are landscape gardeners and every time they get a job to redesign a garden, someone is murdered there. It is pretty hilarious. Does anyone remember the name- oops, just remembered it- Rosemary and Thyme. |

The Norman Conquests was a very clever cycle of 3 plays, all about the same events, but each set in a different room of the same house. So a character would
exit the Kitchen play, for example, and enter the Living Room play, and when you saw each play you got different information abut what was going on. If they
made a tv show out of it I would love to see it!
Inspector Lewis is pretty much the continuation of Inspector Morse. It's ok, IMHO, but not as good as the original. The Prime Suspect shows with the superlative Helen Mirren, of course, if you haven't seen them. y2000k, the original Coupling series was so so so funny. We have the first season or two on DVD and they still are hysterical. It really went downhill when the original cast was replaced, and the US version was a complete abomination (bad casting!). What about The Office and Extras, both with Ricky Gervais? If you haven't seen Extras, do not delay. I think the one with Kate Winslet as a foul-mouthed nun was my fave. I was a huge Upstairs Downstairs fan. And what about Dr. Who? |

I never liked Are You Being Served, or Benny Hill. Still like Keeping Up Appearances and As Time Goes By, even though I can practically recite the
dialogue.
On BBC America I love watching How Not to Decorate (Who ARE those guys!?) and Cash in the Attic, but on the latter I only like some of the presenters (such
as Alistair Appleton, what a Brit name!) but not all of the others.

Oh yes, Elaine, your mention of Dawn French reminded me: AB FAB, sweetie darling!
Does anyone else LOVE Graham Norton? There is always at least one part of every show that has me falling off the couch laughing. |

How Not to Decorate....Colin and Justin, right? They're making a Canadian version trying to clean up our bad taste up here, as well.
The colours they choose......eeeeyikes! |

Where did they find those guys? Were they colleagues, or brothers, or partners, or...?

I love all those home shows -- but I haven't seen this one. I'll have to check it out. It's on BBCAmerica, Elaine? When?

ChiChi - I never saw Inspector Morse, so there's nothing for me to compare Inspector Lewis to, but of course I know Inspector Morse is a fantastic series.
There's even an Inspector Morse walking tour offered by the Oxford tourist office! What I like about Lewis, is the cute sidekick. Oh, and the Oxford
scenery of course.

Thanks for all the good ideas. They'll keep us entertained for a long time.
Does anyone know the name of the funny series about two British women cooks/chefs? I only saw it a couple of times. I think the programs begin with the two driving down the road to their next job. It might even be a real cooking show rather than just a comedy- I'm not sure. |

Driving their motorcycle? One died recently, so those will be reruns. It was called "Two Fat Ladies".... I think. Could that really be?
Colin and Justin's Canadian program is "Colin and Justin's Home Heist" I'm sure they have last names, but I can't remember them, and yes, they are partners, if not married. Good ol' Wikipedia says: Colin McAllister (b.1968) and Justin Ryan (b.1967) are Scottish interior designers and television presenters. McAllister and Ryan have incorporated their trademark behaviour, which includes their frequent bickering, fussiness, tantrums and light-hearted put-downs, as comic relief into most of their programmes. As well as being co-hosts, McAllister and Ryan have also been in a relationship for twenty-two years.[1] 15 February 2008, they were married in London in a private ceremony followed by a Caribbean honeymoon.[2][3] Although their main residence is Glasgow[4] they divide their time between there and London and own homes in both cities. As of 2007 they were living temporarily in Canada where they recently bought an apartment and are filming their latest show Colin and Justin's Home Heist for HGTV. |
