(For me, if I went to Featherdale, I'd probably make a whole day of it. Also, I have no interest in seeing the Olympic site in Sydney.)
Without knowing the fitness level and interests of you and your travel companions, let me offer a few alternatives:
1. Take the train to Leura, buy yourself a picnic lunch, walk 3 blocks to the edge of the escarpment, and do your own hike along the cliff top to Katoomba. End up at Echo Point (Three Sisters). Take a taxi or bus into Katoomba or Leura for tea and a look round, before catching the train back to Sydney.
2. Or take the train to Katoomba and start your walk at Echo Point, ending up in Leura. I believe it's called the Prince Henry Cliff Walk.
3. The views are spectacular, especially from Echo Point (Three Sisters). The upper cliff hike is fairly level and easy walking. If you want the full glorious experience, you need to do some steep up-and-down walking, including a lot of stairs (hundreds? thousands? I lost count.) If you start at Echo Point, you can go down some of the stairs as far as you feel like, then return to the cliffside trail. Or you can continue down to the bottom and hike in the opposite direction from Leura, ending up at the base of the Skyway, where you can save yourself a lot of effort by taking "The Steepest Railway in the World" back up to the top. From there, a 5 minute taxi ride will get you into Katoomba, or 10 minutes to Leura. I believe there is also a bus.
Take a look at a map and see where the tour will take you versus concentrating on the Jamison Valley. Here are a couple of maps that might help.
