Yea. Whole Foods bought out Wild Oats. If they didn't have another Whole Foods nearby , they probably renamed Wild Oats as Whole Foods.

That must be it then. We had no Whole Foods and one Wild Oats (about 10 miles from here) for the entire city. Like I said - not a hot bed for... well,
anything.
But we do have a number of Latin American and Vietnamese and even a Russian market nearby. Those are fun and we can find a lot of different things at those sometimes. |

Papayas are much larger. Personally, I don't mind them, but I think they don't have a lot of flavor, and much prefer mangoes. My theory is that people
who don't like mangoes have never had a really good one. So many of the mangoes we get are either stringy or mushy or tasteless. But the Ataulfo or
Champagne mangoes do have great flavor, although it's tarter and more lemony than other mangoes.

A fruit I do eat every day - oranges -although I eat lots of other fruits in season, oranges are pretty much my standby. I can't stand mangoes, papayas, or lychees. To me they all taste like dish detergent. Apparently that is not how they taste to other people, or they wouldn't be so popular. A fruit that looks like a lychee but doesn't taste like a lychee and is actually good - rambutan. Huh! |

It's funny you say that, Juju, because I feel that way about licorice, anise, fennel, etc. They all taste like soap to me. I figure they must taste
different to people who like them.
Did you have trouble with your old log-in, or is your new name part of your computer problems? |

Huh!! I don't dislike anise and fennel, but they do not taste like soap or chemicals to me. On the other hand, I don't cook and wouldn't have any
opportunity to try using them. Bigdog, the cook of the family, does not use either of them. I am not sure that I have had a really good licorice in years,
but used to get it as a child in Australia, and it was wonderful. I have had really good licorice candy a few times since childhood. Most of what we get in
the US is tough and dried out.
Two more things that just taste like chemicals to me are rosemary and diet sodas. I can't figure out why people would ingest them. Sorry about the name mix-up. I have an idea it is going to continue happening. It is not due to the failing computer (which has its good days and its bad, and one day it is going to go totally kerplooie, and hopefully I will have switched computers by then or fixed it). One of my other messages boards just went to a Yuku server, so I got a second nickname to try to keep the boards separate. Ha! As if! Let's just hope we don't get any more Juju's on this board to add to the confusion. I am intending to use the Jujuju2 here and on CruiseCritic.com. But I expect the other Juju will slip in now and then. |

Which part of the fennel are we talking about? I like both parts, but I'm curious as to how you are using them?
Rosemary is the heart of a herb garden! I use it to decorate plates or to stick it in the car for the lovely smell. Obviously not for everyone! If I'm cooking, I'll add rosemary, but not to come out as a burnt stick, just as a subtle flavour. My other fave herbs are tarragon, chervil (which has finally decided to grow for me) with chives and parsley (fines herbes concoction) The bay tree continues to grow and prosper. I'm so glad it made it through this last winter. Fave fruit, to stay on topic? Cherries and mangoes. Not together, and only a bit of either. I'm not a big fan of eating fruit so I have to trick myself by putting them in muffins or cakes. |

If you're asking me, GR, I'm not using any part of the fennel. Ugh.
We just took out a bay tree. They are barely a step above a weed here. And if we're going that route, Mikey, then I guess tequila-flavored lime (aka margarita) would be my favorite fruit. |

Chi Chi - your "soap" comment reminded me that when I was little I had rabbit once and I thought it tasted like soap! I tried it again in adulthood
thinking my taste buds might be more mature and I could appreciate it more, but nope - still tasted like soap!

KirRoyale, the trick is NOT to wash the rabbit in Ivory Liquid before cooking it! Soap! Are you kidding me? I love rabbit and never thought of soap.

Yes, my son and I have enjoyed the Champagne mangoes for a few years now. I don't buy the green/red ones anymore, as they just don't compare. The last
one I bought was VERY tart, though--must have been too close to the end of season? I just put it in a blender with a banana, some honey, orange juice, and ice,
and it made a lovely smoothie.

I'm with Patrick on the rabbit. I've had them many times during my lifetime. Dear step-dad used to hunt them for mom to prepare. Later, DH provided
me with a few. A few years ago, a hunter friend found out that I liked them & gave me so many that I had to finally tell him 'Enough!' I
don't think I've cooked one since. Though my mom's SO has cooked one for me a time or two.....Yum!......and no soap taste here!
I don't know what they could have done to the rabbit to make it taste that way. But, years ago, we'd have friends tell us they tried & didn't appreciate the taste of venison. Then, we found out they were eating it after marinading it in various things that definitely affected the taste. When they ate my mom's simple prep, they were new 'converts'! |

JocP - that sounds like a really nice smoothie, though I feel the mangoes are too precious to be mixed in one! I prefer eating them plain. However, I did use
them to make a fruit salad once: diced mangoes, diced papaya, sliced bananas, and a dash of lemon or lime juice.
