we took a long drive, way west on route 62 through Princeton, Hubbardston, Barre, then north to Royalston. It felt like we hit peak in Barre, and then the colors were more muted as we drove north. it seemed to me like the best color had been blown off the trees. Or maybe its just that there were a lot of evergreens up there, it just didn't seem so colorful as it should.

I wish I'd stopped when we drove through Petersham. We were looking for someplace to have lunch or I would have stopped for pics around the town green. They had a classic New England white church, and some sugar maples in front of it that were absolutely on fire. if I'd know those were the best trees I'd see all day, I'd have stopped and gotten out.
