Just for fun...where would you go? |

Suppose the stars all lined up, the bank account was full and you could go wherever you wanted for one week. Where would you go? You can qualify it for a two
week stay if you need travel time.

Oh, so many choices! But I probably will choose Egypt and the pyramids.

Well, if the bank account was full, I wouldn't have to restrict myself to just one week! But I'll play. I'd still probably choose London for a week
--- most more exotic places I'd really want longer to spend more time in the area. But a week in London seeing about 10 or 12 plays is just perfect.

Hmm, time of the year will factor in the choice. If I go in July/August, I'm not going somewhere hot and humid.

I was going to say Hawaii but I've never been there and since I was born in the Andes, heat and tropical weather may not be to my liking, I'm not sure.
So, I read Patrick's answer and I look deep inside myself and know what I truly want:
A week in NY at the St. Regis, theatre as much as possible, ballet and some chamber music. Simple foods but oh, so good. Pizza, pastrami, Carvel chocolate bonnets. Pick and choose some chinese restaurants and deli's in the upper West Side. For shopping, a few odd antique stores and Fish and Edy's, again in the upper West Side. I don't want to visit any friends or relatives - a week of just me and NY (and a lot of money). Geez Louise, how could I forget, a few baseball games, if possible a subway series where the Mets beat the pants off of the Yankees!

I'd go back to Hawaii in a heartbeat! I could stay there 6 months & be happy ...but, since DS2 is in New Zealand, I'd like to see that, too. Other
than that, it's on to Europe - maybe see some of Germany ( never been there & have always wanted to) & also the French wine country. Then, a week
or so in London going to theater.

I know I'd love week-long stays in all these places, and any of these could be my favorite. Which one I chose would depend on the season, and which shows
and events were playing.
London, Vienna, Mexico City, Rome Note I did not put Paris on the list. Not that I don't appreciate it, but I just know it would not be my first favorite. Also, I think I'd enjoy San Francisco as much as the others, but because that is relatively cheap for me to get to, I'm leaving it off the list. |

Right now -- and since I know I'm headed to Southern Africa in October already -- I'd pick Italy. But I want two weeks, because of travel time. We just
met a guy with a villa outside Lucca that would be well located to visit some places we've already been, and others we've not seen yet. On short notice
like this, I want to go somewhere I'm comfortable planning quickly for...and that means someplace I want to go back to.

I like journeys, although not necessarily in fast motion.
I pick Kyrgyzstan, but visiting it while going overland, starting in Kashgar, China (for the market) and ending in Bukara, Uzbekistan, via Osh and Samarkand. Not a long part of the Silk Road, but the part that I'd most like to follow. I'd like for us to take our daughter and show her her family heritage. And well, I ended up being a major fan of Uzbek and Kyrgyz food (plov, lagman, samsas) and that's never a bad bonus when you travel. |

Can't say I know much about Madagascar, but I'm game. How do we get over that "money is no object" obstacle?

I really want to go to Easter Island....and since money is no object, by private jet. Of course, I would take along friends and family and maybe even throw
in a private chef for us all.

I really liked Easter Island. There's something magical about the place. It's not hard to get to if you get to Chile--regular planes to the Island. I
just wish we'd stayed longer. Two days wasn't enough.
We've put a geocache on the Island, and regularly hear from people who are delighted with the view we brought them to. It's a nice way to get your travel experiences to come back to you. |

Good friends of ours agreed with you, GR. They loved it. But their flight from Chile was quite expensive as I recall.

How odd... Madagascar is the trip I'm planning next...
I've been wanting to go for about 8 years and am determined it'll be the next big wildlife trip. We tried to include it in the 9 week Southern Africa trip in 2004 but just too expensive. And we thought about going since then but didn't particularly want to go just when the cartoon films came out since it experienced a surge in bookings then. We almost went last year but East Africa won in terms of being able to use airmiles for free 1st class flights. So it's going to be next year! Otherwise, Arctic. |

Having just returned from a too-short weekend in New York City, I'm really in the urban mindset, so I might use my freebie week there. It would be hard to
turn down a week in Paris, though. I would do pretty much the same thing in either place: explore new neighborhoods on foot, stop frequently for snacks and
drinks (pricey ones if I so choose!), people watch, and just absorb as much as I can. Where would I stay? No fancy big hotels, but maybe a trendy boutique-y
one, or a fab apartment. Oh, and I'm flying first class!!
