Okay, here's the companion thread...not just actors you like, mind you, that would be too easy. It has to be actors whose movies you go to, even when they
are BAD movies, or at least actors who make every movie better...

I agree with all of those, CCat, and would add Helen Mirren and Johnny Depp. I'm sticking to the living, or else my list will be endless.

I rarely will go see a BAD movie, even if my favorite actor/actress is in it. If I have to choose one, probably Hugh Grant; but he's getting old now and I
am not sure if he will be as appealing as 10 years ago.
OTOH, I pretty much will go see any movies shot in London. I just love that city and therefore enjoy movies set there. However, the last one I saw, Last Chance Harvey (with Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman), was pretty bad. |

I rarely watch movies anymore, but there was a time when I'd go to ANY movie with Kevin Spacey.

Like Jocelyn, I almost never see current movies. Now and then, I will watch an old movie on TV if I have nothing better to do.
I think one of the best actresses today, and somewhat underrated, is Charlize Theron. Despite being blindingly beautiful, she has an almost mystical ability to transform hereself into whatever the part calls for. If you haven't seen it, look up one or more of her elegant photos on the web and then rent and watch "Monster". You will not be able to beleive it is the same person. |

I really can't think of ANY actors I consider a "must-see". I do not watch movies, either in a theater or on TV, just because a certain actor is
in it.

I have fewer 'must see' actors than I used to. John Wayne was an old fave, Clint Eastwood has always been probably DH's & my best must see.
Some others were George C. Scott, Dustin Hoffman & at one time, Gene Hackman. When I was a youngster, Doris Day was a must ( think "Forty Pounds of
Trouble" with Tony Curtis) - also, Cary Grant.
I still am drawn to Julia Roberts movies, though I think my infatuation with her is waning a bit. I can't think of any other current actor that I really consider a 'must see'. |

I agree with Johnnie Depp, he's incredibly versatile and to me, always an asset.
Colin Firth can do no wrong, as I may have mentioned once or six times before. |

I like Johnnie Depp too. He always chooses interesting roles too.
by the way, there's a rumor they are doing new "Lone Ranger" movie, and Johnnie Depp is playing Tonto. He's also due to play the Mad Hatter in a Tim Burton production of "Alice in Wonderland" (which just may have the potential to be the most twisted movie of all time). And I must add Kenneth Branagh. |

Geez, I'm having a lot of trouble with this question. I guess I am better at hating an actor.
It used to be Harrison Ford but after his last Indiana Jones, I've pretty much given up on him. The only one I can think of that will get me to the theater would be Meryl Streep, sorry Mike. |

I will see anything with Keanu Reeves in it. I will see anything with Sam Elliot Also, anything with Jason Statham. Vin Diesel can draw me in. Gene Hackman
rarely disappoints. Up until the Da Vinci Code - any Tom Hanks movie was bound to be great (and I can't blame him for that - the books were horrible, not
sure how I expected the movie to be better). Morgan Freeman is usually a good bet.
I'm not as good with females. I think Scarlet Johannson is good - but couldn't name a single movie she's been in. I'll have to give the girls some more thought. |

CD, "Match Point" had Scarlett, also, "The other Boleyn Girl"
I'd see anything with Tom Hanks in it (not that I have seen the DV Code yet though...) Can't disagree with the above actors. Emma Thompson for sure, Hugh Grant absolutely and with him it's not a function of young/cute, I just love his on-screen personality. Funny and self-deprecating. Colin Firth. Ralph Fiennes. Kristin Scott Thomas (LOVE her) and also Juliette Binoche. Willem Dafoe (if anyone can tell me what my favorite movie is...?) Colin Farrell is VERY easy to look at. hubba hubba. Eric Bana as well... I really like the actor Mathieu something or other, he was in Munich with Eric Bana and also in Amelie (and perhaps the director of same?) I really like Philip Seymour Hoffman. |

Hmmmm...might it be English Patient? I saw it in the theater five times. |

Ooh - Beth - just saw Willem Dafoe on The Graham Norton Show. I love him. Remember Streets of Fire?

We see so few movies that most of these names - the younger ones, anyway - are unfamiliar to me. However, if George Clooney made a movie even if it consisted
solely of him reciting the alphabet, I could be persuaded to rent the DVD.

CDDaisy, I didn't like Scarlett Johansson at first, but I warmed up to her. Apart from MatchPoint and the Other Boelyn Girl mentioned, she's also in
Scoop (my fav), Vicky Christina Barcelona, A Good Woman.
I actually like John Cusack as well as Ed Norton. However, I won't go see any movie that they're in. |

Robert Redford. Even now and even if he is engaged.
A second for Colin Firth, even after Mamma Mia. |

For those of you who like Colin Firth and Scarlett Johannsen, did you see the film "Girl with the Pearl Earring", based on the novel about the Dutch
painter Jan Vermeer?
It wasn't a top film, but beautifully photographed, an unusual story, and they were both playing roles very different from their usual. |

I also really like Will Smith (I think he is absolutely adorable, so handsome and seems full of integrity) and would go see any of his movies. I haven't
seen all of them, not by far, but the ones I've seen were either enjoyable (MIB, Independence Day) or interesting (I am Legend) or just an incredibly good,
poignant story (Pursuit of Happyness... and the little boy was his actual son). It makes me teary thinking of that movie.
I also have a major crush on Kal Penn (did I say that already) and can't wait for the Namesake which I am tivoing later this week I believe it is... |
