Wow! Qantas charges another $125 for exit-row seat

by Janice Hough

In the ever escalating airline fee wars, Qantas has now taken things to a whole new level. Starting next month, the airline plans to charge AU$160
(approximately $125) for exit-row seats on their long-haul flights.

On shorter flights, presumably within Australia, the airline will charge AU$80 for the exit row. Although, Qantas says plans are still being finalized as to...

Made it here, and guess what!??? The checkin clerk looked at me a bit quizzically when I mentioned Qantas now charging for emergency row, and said, yes, there
had been talk about it, but they hadn't started doing it. And we got emergency row, and it was the good one, NOT at the restrooms, and Bigdog took the
window seat and did not freeze too badly, and we had a great and gorgeous and gregarious young Northern Irish fellow as a seatmate, and we all slept for hours
and hours.

Well, for what it's worth jjj, I do think aside from the leg room being about average, Qantas has one of the more comfortable seats in coach. Definitely
some of the best service I've had on a flight without it being overbearing. So, I'd sure rather (by a long shot) fly Qantas base coach over any of the
other airlines I've been on, including American, Aer Lingus, Cathay, Eva, British, United, Delta, Iberia, etc...

Thanks for that info, Clifton. I have had that trade-off before. Okay, I am psyching up now for not getting emergency row. I just remembered another
drawback on some airplanes. Sometimes the emergency row seats have fewer inches front to back. Since most of my height is in my thighs, it can get real
uncomfortable sitting on a short seat.

I had a hosanna! moment for a while this afternoon when I was checking my Qantas reservation, and it briefly showed that I already have seats...

row, which makes the seat quite a bit narrower, I keep having to store the video and dining tray to get up and down, and the arm rests don't flip up at all
(which is usually ok, but like it up if traveling with my wife).
