the stage and theatre were huge, it was the one built for Celine Dion. Bette filled it with a gazillion chorus Girls (!)--the name of the show is The Showgirl Must Go On.
She joked a lot, swore some (though much less than I remember from her early years--she may have toned things down for this early show, she does two a night on some nights).
The entendres were single and explicit when they occured, there's nothing coy about our Bette. She donned her old mermaid...

Sounds like the perfect amount of Vegas! It really can be a lot of fun. But I'd like to know more about Bette Middler's show????? Does she have fancy production numbers? Spend a good bit of time schmoozing with the audience? I'd hope she'd spend a good bit just standing there and singing the heck out of some songs...(I've long been a big fan). What kind of show has she got around her...scads of handsome chorus boys? Lots of double entendres?

We all had a great time. The three of us have traveled together before as three. I've also traveled once before with just my cousin to Paris, and my sister and I have traveled together or with her family a number of times. We are each very different, but the dynamics seem to work well, and when one or two of us want to do something different or alone, that's fine too.

Hurray!!! It sounds like you went into this adventure with the right expectations and mindset. I'm jealous of your gondola ride--I'll bet that was a hoot! Two days is just about right, too. Twice I've been there for four days, and by that last day I am READY TO GO HOME.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Did you travelmates have a good time, too?

This was my first visit to Las Vegas, and I enjoyed it immensely, almost in spite of myself. I expected, and could see , that it is about color, lights, artifice, exaggeration, customer service, and capitalism at its most unleashed, enticing, and vulgar. I'm not the first one to think of this, but it's Disneyland for grown-ups. People of all ages stroll through the casinos of expensive hotels in Disneyland garb: teeshirts, tanktops, and shorts.

After some pretty boring highway driving, we finally started seeing signs for the GC, and then we entered the national park at the South Rim.

We pulled over at the first viewing opportunity and there it was. There are some sightseeing occasions that fulfill years of expectations based on books, film, photos, and stories. ...

Great report elaine. And yes Enchantment Resort is hard to find. We went to Yavipai for my DH's birthday. We did a dry run during the day and still got lost while leaving at night Orchards is very pleasant indeed. We stayed at The Orchards which is the motel type structure at the top of the hill there. Great views, same pool as for the very much pricier L'Auberge below and often available for about $100 US per night.
