It looks like I may have a one week (and therefore, rushed) trip to Italy in October. So far, the plan is two nights Venice, 3 nights Florence, 3 nights Rome, though that may be tweaked.
Haven't been to Florence and Rome in ages.
Interested in your Venice hotel recommendation, twin room under 200 euro per night if possible, San Marco location. In the past I've stayed at the Saturnia and at the Flora; in the past have considered Ca' Pesaro (not in San Marco but...

Some of you know of our almost 10 years of failed attempts to get to Italy. Hopefully THIS time is a winner:)

We start out in London and then Canterbury, UK, where mr mc is attending a conference. Then we go to ROME!

Some young friends of ours are meeting us there. Being euros, they were able to get us nice rates at Hotel Napoleon, a hotel which normally is above our pay grade....

I read a magazine article a few years back about how travelers tend to love Venice or Florence, but not both. According to this writer, the two cities appealed to different parts of the brain, thus one would be drawn to one or the other. Do you agree with this philosophy? Or do you love both equally?

I have visited both cities once, for two days each. There's no question that I preferred Florence. I'd love to return to both for a second opinion!
