I'll skip the unfolding of the story, which involved much confusion at the gate, but what happened was as follows.

Our equipment [767-300] arrived at CDG from Chicago with the left overwing exit "unusable." Rather than pulling the plane they moved us all behind row 30. Yesterday as we were about to land at DFW on American, the flight attendant came on to make what we assumed was the usual message about connecting gate information. But what she said was, "To those of you unfamiliar with Dallas /Ft. Worth airport. . . . Good luck". End of message. We all roared.

I'm looking at flying to Houston for Christmas. Continental does nonstops from Ft. Myers. My beloved American must go through Dallas. Prices are almost the same, but how much does Continental charge for a checked bag (which I'm pretty sure I'd need)? They are free for me on American, so adding $50 round trip -- I'm guessing it is $25 each way, makes a little difference, not to mention not getting my American miles.

Sorry I don't have the link, but Southwest is now going to give passengers the option of paying a $10 fee (each way) to get to the front of the line for boarding. Since SW doesn't have reserved seats, this would be your way of getting an aisle or window seat.
